SUMMER RUN STEELHEAD JULY 15 - SEPTEMBER 15 Late July is the beginning of our summer run Steelhead season! Simply put, there is no greater place to be in the world if your interest is to rise giant migratory Trout to dry flies and skating bugs! Spey Lodge guests enjoy guided trips to the most limited guided Steelhead fishing on the Skeena watershed, for chrome Steelhead that show up as early as the first week of July. These along with chrome Kings & early Coho Salmon make August hard to beat in the Skeena area. The Skeena River is now filling up with Steelhead heading for all the famous tributaries we've all read about. The Morice, Kispiox, Bulkley, Sustut & Babine to name a few! All these fish have to swim past our Lodge to reach these waters! At the same time many fresh Coho & Sockeye Salmon are also heading up the river. Fishing the Skeena for some people can be overwhelming until they start hooking up! At times the Skeena has unbeatable fishing as some anglers have found out. We fish braided sections of the Skeena along with some of the largest runs you'll ever encounter. We access this water by jet boats, which allows us to venture into new water all the time. Exploring this great watershed leaves you mesmerized by the beauty and power of this incredible river and its fish! Imagine hooking one of the giant Steelhead of the Skeena heading to the Kispiox or Babine Rivers but this fish is still chrome and in giant water, we have hooked many that we have never seen! The Copper River has been rated in the top 6 Steelhead rivers in the world; this is for good reason! Unlike the other famous tributaries of the Skeena the Copper produces incredible Steelhead fishing starting late July and following through until late November. Because the Copper is close to the mouth of the Skeena, these fish are chrome bright and very aggressive. Some anglers call these fish "CRAZY" due to their madness for dry flies; often rising to flies 6-10 casts in a row. The Copper River is the most limited guided fishery on the Skeena having only 5 allocated guides on it with minimal rod day use. The Copper is minutes from the Lodge and offers us 50kms of river to float. A day is spent typically floating 8-10kms of water accessing pools and runs hosting these wild fish reaching 30lbs. The scenery is spectacular with emerald green water flowing through beautiful rugged mountains. There is nothing greater than casting floating lines all day in search of wild Steelhead. The rewards are tremendous! Ocean fly-fishing For an alternative day trip we also offer guided fly-fishing trips for Coho & Pink Salmon in the ocean. Cast minnow patterns into schools of bait being targeted by chrome salmon. While stripping in your fly, hold on when you get TUGGED! [Spring] [June-August] [July-September] [Fall] [Fall-Winter] |
