SUMMER SALMON

JUNE 15 - AUGUST 15

With an incredible amount of water to fish in June and July, the toughest part of fishing here is deciding where to go! During the summer season our primary target species is the King Salmon, averaging 22 pounds with fish exceeding 40! The days are long and eventful, and quite often we fish a split day; morning and evening. Hopping in the jet boat behind the Lodge and running the Skeena in search of runs of fish is an incredible way to spend the day. Floating or jet boating the tributaries and swinging wet flies to these giant fish is incredible.

The Skeena is a highway for all the species of Salmon and Steelhead running fresh from the sea to reach their native waters. This river can be unpredictable but sometimes the most rewarding fishery in the world. It is home to the largest Steelhead and Salmon in the world with incredibly strong stocks of wild fish. While swinging your fly you could potentially hook Sockeye, Steelhead, Kings, Pinks and Chum Salmon along with Dolly Varden and sea-run Cutthroat. Summer is a time to catch chrome Sockeye on the fly averaging 8lbs, these acrobatic fish are great fighters and delicious on the BBQ during your visit at Spey Lodge.

The Copper is primarily a King Salmon fishery in early summer, with the possibility of seeing the beginning of the amazing Steelhead run typically showing in August. The King fishery is amazing on the fly. We often hook these fish on floating lines with large weighted flies or light sink tips. The Kings in the Copper are all Chrome in summer. Bringing in one of these chromers can be a challenge to say the least; you'll often find 2 guides assisting you to successfully land one of these monsters. The Kings in the Copper average 25lbs and reach 50lbs. This water is accessed floating with rafts, but like all our fisheries we wade and fish from shore.

Fishing the Kitimat River can be most eventful in summer! Kings, Chums and Pink Salmon are in abundance at this time. A pleasure to float in the summer, there is endless water to fish with incredible flywater. If there were ever a time and place to bring an amateur flyfisherman, this would be it. The Pink & Chum Salmon are very aggressive to the fly and are in numerous numbers. This makes for continuous hook-ups which can certainly teach new anglers how to fight, land and handle fish properly. It can also encourage them to learn how to cast better boosting their confidence in hooking up on fresh feisty Salmon.

Some call the Kasiks River the most beautiful river in the world. With our scenery being some of the nicest in the world, the Kasiks seems to take it another step! This is truly Gods Country, with cascading waterfalls in every direction. The Kasiks is a tributary of the Skeena and is only accessed by jet boat or helicopter. The trout fishing can be great in summer months on the Kasiks, large Dolly Varden and Sea-Run Cuttroat can be taken on streamers swung into beautiful clear runs. While progressing up the river this place reminds some people of Yosemite without the people. Wild untouched water to fish with more waterfalls and greenery make this a wonderland almost unimaginable.
